This was just wonderful, thank you so much! Seriously, there is something about HS AU that when it's good is so good...and this was more than good.
If I wrote everything that I loved, it would take pages and pages. But I'll just point out a few things that made this story for me.
First off, LOVE LOVE LOVE your Neil. He was a smartass with a big heart hidden under piles of cynicism...I'm thinking you might be fairly close to real life on that.
Adam's coming to terms with his sexuality was very believable, and the way you handled him coming out to his family was perfect. Neil's touch of humor and then the acceptance of both his mother and his brother...perfect. I was a little worried about him coming out to his "football dad", but once again perfect. I loved that moment when Adam was trying to push every button and I can imagine him bracing himself for rejection when he told his dad he was gay and asked his dad if he was still proud of him. His father's total acceptance had me in tears.
In some ways this was an off characterization of HS Adam as the popular jock quaterback with a heart...but you managed to capture so much of Adam's heart in your character.
The moment when Kris rushed out a believable overreaction considering the unresolved sexual tension between two high school guys not out to each other. When they finally kissed...so perfect.
This one's going to be bookmarked for sure. &hearts
