[Poll #1662304]
I have to sleep curled on my side (doesn't matter which, although I do toss and turn several times before I can get comfy and decide on a particular side). On my back I feel exposed (don't ask me why) and on my stomach I feel like I'm being suffocated.
When I was a kid I could sleep any which way. The year I moved out, in 2006 when I was 17, I found I could only fall asleep on my side. I don't know if it's significant, but it's certainly annoying.
During the semester, I usually get about five hours of sleep. Any less and I am not functional human being, especially if I repeat the process.
It takes about half an hour for my brain to wind down and shut up before I can fall asleep. Night is when my interesting thoughts come out to play, so I have to let them wander for a while.
A doctor told me once that it should take you roughly twenty minutes to fall asleep; any less, like if you fall asleep the instant your head hits the pillow, your body's not getting enough sleep. The best naps are short ones, not more than one hour, and if you can find time in your day to take 'em, they can help you feel more energized.
Sleep is good. We should reward ourselves with sleep whenever possible.
