One of my friends just got engaged!!!

Okay, so I'm excited by the news, but there are some other feelings swirling around!

WHY YOU BECOMING OLDER, SELF!? WTF!? One of my FRIENDS is getting married in the not-too-distant future! This is CRAZY!

But here's the thing:

They met the summer after high school, so they don't count as high school sweethearts, and they survived a really rough, rocky patch of their relationship and made it through. It only makes sense that they're getting married. I can still remember riding the bus when we were, like, 19, jfc, and her saying, "I think he might be the one, Nikki..."

I could see it then, and I can see it now.

My only worry is that I haven't seen this woman in a while. We used to be really good friends in high school; we would hang out all the time. Both avid readers, we had a mutual adoration of Harry Potter slash fanfiction back in the day. She was a close friend of mine, someone I confided in, but we've grown apart over the last few years as people are wont to do with time. I see her over coffee sometimes. She consulted me for a really personal matter two years ago, which always surprised and touched me, but we're not the same people we were. After all, it's been nearly six years since we graduated high school. SIX YEARS!

I would really like to be witness to this wedding! But the last time I talked to her was over the summer. Would it be weird if I called her now to say congratulations? I saw the news on Facebook, and I said something there (fucking facebook!!!!), but I kind of want to call her and tell her properly, maybe go for coffee and hear the whole story. I mean, this was one of my really good friends, and I'd love to know how it went down and let her now how happy I am that she's GETTING MARRIED!

What do y'all think? What might the decorum be for this kind of thing?

I can't imagine anyone who's just got engaged being anything other than keen to talk to a friend about it, and enthuse, and have an excuse for same. I'd say call, and see how it goes. She *might* be suddenly overwhelmed with Wedding Stuff, and therefore busy, but a cheerful friend calling to say, how wonderful! can't be wrong. Just don't hint that you're looking for an invitation, or anything like that.

(Yes, I've been reading a lot on Etiquette Hell. Ahem.)

i say go ahead and give her a call!! if you've been growing a little distant but are still on good terms i'm sure she would appreciate a call anyways :) Plus it's a little more personal that something on facebook, where your mother's friend's daughter's best friend from high school can say congrats if they happen to friend request her lol. and you have nothing but nice things to say to her, so go on ahead and give her a ring!

LOL, ~ring. didn't even see that one til it was typed out :P
